Zarathrusta is a 1991 multi-directional shoot 'em up developed by The Whiz Kidz and published by Hewson Consultants for the Commodore Amiga.

Heavily inspired by the 1986 classic Thrust, the game challenges players to pilot a small spaceship through 53 cavernous, hostile alien worlds. The objective is to use a tractor beam to retrieve "Klystron pods"—essential power sources for a rebel resistance—and safely tow them back into orbit.

Key Features

  • Physics-Based Gameplay: Mastery of 360-degree rotation, momentum, and unforgiving gravity is crucial, especially as the added weight of a towed pod alters your ship's inertia.

  • Bitmap Visuals: Unlike the wireframe vector graphics of Thrust, Zarathrusta features detailed 2D bitmap environments ranging from overgrown jungles to icy wastes.

  • Resource Management: Players must carefully balance their fuel consumption while firing conventional blasters, deploying heavy lasers, and activating defensive shields.

  • Volatile Environments: Striking a planet's power reactor freezes enemy defenses temporarily, but over-damaging it triggers a critical countdown, forcing a frantic escape before total meltdown.
