Terry's Big Adventure is a colourful, 2D side-scrolling platform game released in 1989 by Shades Software (and published by Grandslam Interactive for the Commodore Amiga).
The game heavily channels classic console platformers like Super Mario Bros. Tasked with navigating a young, lost boy named Terry through 12 diverse fantasy worlds, players must jump across treacherous gaps, avoid whimsical hazards, and collect scoring items like mushrooms.
Instead of traditional weapons, Terry defends himself against quirky enemies (such as hedgehogs and snails) using a yo-yo. Firing the yo-yo introduces a unique gameplay mechanic and physics quirk, causing Terry to experience a slight recoil with every toss.
Players can also swap to throwing pebbles by pressing the spacebar and collect falling letter parachutes to spell out "TERRY" for a temporary protective shield. Featuring charming sprite graphics and upbeat music composed by Allister Brimble, it remains a nostalgic piece of Amiga platforming history.
