Retro Games Ltd has been hinting at the release of a full-sized Amiga, dubbed the Amiga Maxi (unofficial title), ever since the launch of their A500 mini system. Initially, there was originally speculation that this new system would be a full-sized A500.
However, during GameCon 2025 in August, it was confirmed that the upcoming system would actually be modeled after the Amiga A1200. Similar to the A500 mini, this new offering lacks any Commodore or Amiga branding, likely to avoid legal complications and reduce licensing expenses. There were concerns that the launch might be postponed due to ongoing legal disputes regarding AmigaOS ownership among various parties and Hyperion.
The new system is set to match the size and design of the A1200 and will include a full-sized, functional Amiga-style keyboard. From the images, it appears that the disk drive section will be sealed off, which makes sense given that including a working disk drive would be impractical. It would be interesting if the disk drive button were repurposed as a functional power or menu reset button, but this remains purely speculative for now.
