Xenon is a classic vertically scrolling shoot 'em up released in 1988. Developed by The Bitmap Brothers and published by Melbourne House, it holds the distinction of being the legendary British studio's very first video game.

Key Features:

  • The Transform Mechanic: Unlike standard space shooters, players pilot a versatile craft that can morph dynamically between a ground-based tank and a flying spaceship at the press of a key.

  • Tactical Depth: Certain power-ups, obstacles, and enemies require specific forms; the tank can hold its ground and blast surface targets, while the spaceship can clear gaps and evade hazards from above.

  • Aesthetic & Legacy: Featuring the distinct, chunky, metallic graphical style that would later become a trademark of The Bitmap Brothers, Xenon laid the groundwork for its massively successful sequel, Xenon 2: Megablast.
