Released in 1989 by Core Design, Rick Dangerous is a classic, famously brutal side-scrolling platformer for the Commodore Amiga. Heavily inspired by Indiana Jones, the game puts you in the boots of a fedora-wearing, pistol-wielding archaeologist navigating traps, temples, and enemy bases.
The game is notorious for its punishing "trial-and-error" difficulty. Almost every screen is packed with hidden spikes, rolling boulders, and trigger-happy enemies that require split-second memory and absolute precision to bypass. Equipped with a limited supply of dynamite, ammunition, and a trusty pogo stick to trigger hidden buttons, players must navigate four distinct levels—ranging from South American Aztec temples to secret Nazi fortresses.
Despite its frustratingly steep difficulty curve, its charming cartoon graphics, humorous sound effects, and rewarding level design cemented it as one of the Amiga era's most memorable action-puzzlers.
