Released in 1993 by Prestige and developed by Sphinx, Doofus is a quirky and distinct European side-scrolling platformer for the Commodore Amiga.
Often described as a reverse take on Sleepwalker, the game casts you as a hapless protagonist who must navigate a series of multi-tiered, right-to-left scrolling levels. The core twist and primary challenge lie in protecting your loyal pet dog, who follows closely behind you. If the dog takes damage or perishes, it spells doom for the player, turning a standard jump-and-run formula into a constant balancing act of self-preservation and pet-minding.
Sporting colorful cartoon-style graphics, smooth scrolling, and an array of hazards that can be bypassed by jumping or blasted away with bonus weapons, Doofus offers multiple branching routes through its stages. It remains a memorable, albeit notoriously tricky, piece of the Amiga's vibrant 90s platform library.
