Upgrading the Amiga Gotek Experience with the GTI Touchscreen Interface
Managing large libraries of disk images on a traditional button-based Amiga Gotek can quickly become a little tedious. To solve this, Mez and Dimmy of OmegaWare developed the Gotek Touchscreen Interface (GTI). This system replaces standard button navigation with a vibrant, ESP32-powered colour touchscreen display that plugs directly into your Gotek's USB port.
Key Features of the GTI System
Visual Browsing: Displays high-resolution cover artwork (JPEG or PNG) alongside game titles, replacing cramped, abbreviated filenames.
Flexible Navigation: Supports list views, a dynamic carousel, favourites tagging, and a random title selector.
Multi-Disk Management: Intelligently groups multi-disk games and offers on-screen controls for seamless disk swapping during gameplay.
Wireless Flexibility: Can use an ESP32-S3 wired or via a wireless dongle to communicate between the touchscreen and the Gotek, allowing you to place the display away from your retro computer (but will require separate USB power.
Setup and Configuration Overview
Flashing the Firmware: Using the OmegaWare browser-based web flasher, you can flash the touchscreen without needing any additional hardware.
Structuring Media: On first boot, the GTI creates a configuration folder structure on the microSD card. Place your Amiga .adf files into an ADF folder. Inside, organize games into individual subfolders paired with matching JPEG or PNG cover art (if you want).
Testing on Hardware: Selecting a game on the touchscreen instantly transfers the ADF image to the Gotek, allowing the real Amiga to boot and prompt for disk swaps naturally through the GUI.
